Fruit Flies Making You Crazy? What You Can Do

Posted on

Fruit flies are tiny flies that you may see around your fruits or vegetables that you have sitting on your counters, or you may see them flying around your sink drains. These tiny pests can begin to multiply if you don't take care of them and become a major nuisance for you. You need to take action to get rid of these pests. Read on for some tips to help you get rid of fruit flies in your home.

Pour Bleach Down Your Drains

Fruit flies are seen around drains because they will build a nest in the drains around anything that is clogging your drains. Kill the pests inside your drains by pouring bleach into the drains. Pour it around the edges of the drains where they are most likely located. Repeat daily to help kill these pests and to ensure you have gotten rid of them all. Pour bleach into all of the drains of your home, including floor drains and bathtub drains as well.

Remove Fruits And Vegetables From Your Counters

If you have fruit flies already, you need to remove fruits and vegetables from your counters. Store them in your refrigerator until you can get rid of the fruit flies. There's no sense in attracting them with fruits and vegetables that they can easily use for food to feast off of and create more of a problem for you. Store all fruits and vegetables in your refrigerator for now. Other foods stored on your counter should also be removed for the time being.

Use Apple Cider Vinegar Traps

You can use apple cider vinegar traps made for fruit flies to help get rid of these pests. You may be able to make your own with a small container and apple cider vinegar. Poke holes into the container large enough for the pests to get inside. They will get to the apple cider vinegar, then not be able to get back out. The apple cider vinegar will eventually kill them. You can set these traps all around your home, as apple cider vinegar is a non-toxic way to get rid of these pests.

If you have fruit flies, they can leave you swatting constantly to get them out of your face. Use the tips above to help you get rid of them. Hire a residential pest control company if you continue to have an issue with these pests.
